AF100 & Oddysey7Q

So at the moment I'm still filming with an AF100. I'm looking to buy a recorder for it, but I want it to be future proof so I don't have to buy a new one when upgrading to say a RED or Sony.

What advantages will the Odyssey7Q give me on the AF100? Increased bit depth? On BHPphotovideo it says the AF100 can't output 1080p50 through SDI, is that true? I have the 1080p50 firmware installed. Haven't owned a recorder yet so I'm very curious as to what the specific advantages will be on an AF100.

I doubt it will have any significant differences with other recorders on the AF in terms of recording, but it may save you bulk in functioning as a good monitor.

The advantages of recording externally are going to be equal for the Odyssey 7Q as compared to other ProRes/DNxHD recorders available, such as the Ninja or Samurai or Hyperdeck Shuttle 2. They Odyssey, as a recorder, isn't going to give you anything over those other recorders, in relation to what an AF100 can supply. Well, it'll give you SDI over the Ninja, obviously...

Recording externally, in general, can result in higher image quality than the onboard recording from the perspective that you get 4:2:2 color and less compression. You won't see an increase in bit depth, unless you have an AF100A, in which case the external recorder can take advantage of the "enhanced 10-bit" output.

No camera can output 1080p50 through HD-SDI, that's not possible. It can be done over 3G-SDI, but the AF100 doesn't have 3G SDI.

Re external recorders: I recently got the hyperdeck shuttle 2 for the af100. The benefits of an external recorder on the af100 are often stated to be not very noticeable. Where I have enjoyed the benifit of the external recorder has been on green screen shoots and in the color grade where it is smother and holds up a bit nicer.
