AF100 now really discontinued at B&H in New York

No real 'Merican would buy anything Japanese today anyway

...suspect it's another clerical error considering they're still running a special on the dang thing until the end of the year.

It'd be interesting to do a quick survey of all the goods you have in your house, including electronics, watching at all those Made in .. stickers

It's really too bad. It really is one of the top cameras out today, especially for the dollar. ND filters and 1080p60 slowmo. You really don't need much more than that. It may not have the "most filmic" picture around, but you can get filmic out of this guy with ease.

RIP AF100.

Maybe I'll be able to afford my own personal AF100 with the second hand market on these now :D

Well, here we go again. First, that's no different than what they posted last time they "discontinued" it. But second, maybe it really is discontinued and is superseded by the AF100A... that would make sense.

Barry.. How would you explain that in Japan, where I ordered mine the day before they discontinued in the US, both models are still on the market, the AF105 ( the japanese model number for the AF100 and AF101 in the UK ) and the AF105a with the upgrade included ? 105a sells for about 400,000 yens (4,800$) whereas the 105 sells for about half this price.

BTW Barry, they do not include your book in the land of the Rising Sun, which your publisher is probably aware of -). With only the japanese manual, I am in need of a copy quickly, so if anyone has a spare used copy to sell, please let me know and we'll quickly close the deal thru the private dvxuser email channel.. I did buy the DVD but it won't ship from B&H until a couple of weeks, plus a print copy if good to have for reference on the field.

Erik,
I ordered the AF105 from Japan and it came together with this lens of yours, the Voigtlander 25mm 0.95 MFT, for about 3K ( bought from one of Tokyo's most reputable pro video store ). I intend to shoot a documentary and a music video in the Caribbean with this lens as main and was wondering if it's a good as a main lens for that purpose. Moreoveer, you have influenced me over my search for a good shoulder rig with the Tilta .. cameratrend.com offers the full rig for 2,338$ including a 5" monitor and it seems to me this DSLR rig is the one you use for your AF100, correct ?

I'd appreciate any comment or recommendation in case I find the budget to order _@@_

Good news! That should mean the AF100A is coming soon. 10bit external is pretty sweet. If there have even been the slightest improvements to the chipset/processing, this camera could be STELLAR if it remains at the same price point.

Joke. December 7th, "a date which will live in infamy," Tora Tora Tora, Imperial aerial sneak attacks and terrible Michael Bay movies with Ben Affleck and all that.

Perhaps the proper emoticon would have better translated the placement of tongue in cheek.

I have no knowledge of how the Japanese market conducts itself, but I can speculate that there's no way they'd have both models on the market simultaneously. If the AF105A is shipping, and someone is still offering AF105's, then that would almost certainly be due to them having leftover unsold inventory.

Yes, the USA is the only territory which does.,

You can order directly from amazon.com and specify express shipping. Amazon has lots in stock and will ship immediately.

Thats a great lens. One of my favorites.

If I need to use rails to lit up then the Tilta is my choice. The AF is light and very easy to handhold if you don't put a bunch of extras on her.
you should try out the new Lumix 12-35. Perfect doc lens with stabilization.

I just tried Barry but Amazon won't ship to a Canadian address, and the book isn't available on amazon.ca.. Maybe I should learn japanese aftewards -)

The AF100A is on the way. There are still some AF100s in inventory at some dealerships, those non-A versions are eligible for the $500 rebate. US product only. I hope this helps.

Best,

Jan

Well I must be a really skilled then, as I've made a living over the last two years off this "problematic" camera:thumbsup:

I heard that its users had so many problems with it so for that reason it is good if they are discontinuing it!

Yes, it's true that many people can't get good images out of it, just as it's true there are many people who can't get good images out of a Red, an Arri Alexa, or a Panavision Platinum.

Gosh, you'd almost think there's more to cinematography than buying a camera. Apparently, there are a lot of would-be cinematographers cruising the internet who'll be devastated to learn that.

Then there are those priveleged among us who received special magical versions of the AF that have no problems whatsoever and turn out spectacular images.
