AF100 new brochure with final specs!

also a nice confirmation in there about the sensor, it's 12mp, but is it really a different sensor than the gh1 like they promised?

High-Performance 18-bit DSP
The AG-AF100 series is equipped with a
high-performance 18-bit digital signal
processor (DSP) for image processing.
Optimized for HD video recording, the DSP
handles various image rendering processes,
such as dynamic range stretch
(DRS), gamma, 12-axis independent color correction and detail
enhancement, as well as conversion to HD/
SD video formats − all with exceptional
precision and high image quality.

So does this mean the image is processed as an 18-bit image then down converted to 8 bit? And if so right before the HD-SDI-out or where?

Why would they use the GH1 sensor? Why? They have a new sensor for the GH2. So why on earth would Panasonic use an older version? That is so simple to figure out. Now the question is is the GH2 sharing the same sensor although they have different pixel count?

Has anyone seen this?

If you look at development cycles, the AF100 began a long time ago. I'm sure the newer GH2 Sensor probably still has a lot in common with the GH1 sensor. The 12MP GH1 was the starting point for the AF100. The 2 paths of video and stills are vastly different from that point. Optimizing a sensor to do video has different requirements than the hybrid that is in the GH1 and GH2. Even Panasonic a year ago were saying that the sensor is similar to the GH1. Now, they are saying it's a completely new one. I'm sure the answer is something in between. Needless to say, Panasonic have done a remarkable job bringing a m4/3 sensor to the video camera market - regardless where the sensor lineage lies. It's even bringing Canon 5D, 7D users looking seriously at the GH2 because of buzz around the Af100.

Glad i got my preorder in, but who knows how many people are on the bandwagon

There is a lot to worry about. My pre-order went in on Day 1 with Abel Cine Tech, but I'm #91 on their list. And the first shipment is only ~400 cameras. Not good. There's going to be a lot of unhappy DVXusers until shipment #2, I have a feeling.

EDIT: Cancelled with Abel Cine. Now I'm #6/10 allocation with SILVERADO in CA. Woo Hoo! Guaranteed first wave of shipments.

I believe the AVCCAM Viewer has been around for a while.

Has anyone seen this?

Shown with the leica 14-50mm 4/3 on adaptor. I wonder how this lens compares with the Olympus 14-54 or 12-60. Marketed by Panasonic so I assume full control protocols etc. Pricey yes but has leica name on it. Hopefully someone will do a video review of this.

Nice typo I found:

"Using the newly provided 1,2260,000 function knob (cursor key), you can select a desired area in the frame and set it as a target zone for focusing, iris adjustment and YGET (brightness measurement)."

That's a hell of a name for a function knob!!! :)

Thanks for posting. I'll have my cam first week in January, the place I bought it from has already talked with Panasonic about what to expect in their Dec 27th shipment. Can't get here fast enough (ordered with Full Compass).

I was thinking with the removable grip maybe a self powered via battery or what not servo rocker grip can be an upgrade option from third party or Panasonic for ENG folks. I'd buy that for some applications/gigs

If you are #91 then I suggest looking for a different distributor if you want one early. Someone mentioned a company I think called Silverado or similar to that who were on 6/10 of their allocation.

Yes, by comparison a P2 Varicam would have a 32 bit DSP down converted to 10-bit for AVC-Intra 100 and the three HD SDI outputs.
