AF100 marketing inquiry (note: not phishing)

I received a dubious looking email claiming to be from panasonic public relations.
Has anyone received such a letter?

I work on the public relations team for Panasonic’s Media & Production Services unit, home to the AG-AF100. We understand you are an AF100 owner, and we’re eager to hear about your experience with the camcorder for possible publicity use.
We’d be happy to conduct a brief phone interview, or if you prefer to answer by e-mail, to essentially learn about the scope of your business, how you are using the AF100 and, given its implementation, why you chose it. We’d also love to see AF100 video and would be interested to know if you have any location photos that show you or your staff working with the camcorder.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Courtnee Coburn

Moderator edit: thread title changed to de-emphasize the "phishing" concern, since it has now been verified by Panasonic that this was a legitimate e-mail from their PR agency.

I also received one of those emails a few days ago. It didn't look very legit to me either.
I also received this email. It does seem a bit suspicous, since there isn't any branding attached to the message. Maybe Jan, or someone who knows Panasonic better than us can comment?Shawn

question is how did they get our information? Did they hack panasonic or did panasonic sell this information or is this truly panasonic?

I didn't list my information here, but got the email too. Only place that would have it is Panasonic. (Warranty Info)

Ditto. Plus I have one email dedicated to purchases etc that isn't associated with DVXuser at all. I use that email for Bhphoto etc, phone bill etc, so I know they
got that email address from either bhphoto or panasonic warranty registration info.

I got it too. I haven't responded to her yet only because I forgot and I really don't care. I would definitely be interested to know where they got all our information from.

It's legit. I don't know where they're getting the contact info from, unless it's from the PASS website maybe? But definitely not "phishing" or anything like that, they're just doing more "ask the customer what they do" type of research. Which is how they know to build what we want.

I received it a while back and was impressed that they thought enough of me to ask how I felt about the product.

Regards,
Scott

How is that e-mail a "phishing" scheme that you need to "alert" people about?

"Phishing" would mean they asked for payment of some kind, or your bank account, credit card info, identity info, SSN etc...

Nothing suspicious about it at all IMHO. Looks just like standard marketing follow-up to you registering your product.

Ah cheers, Barry. It's just that all email that I've received from Panny had a Panny brand-graphic in the correspondence. This email didn't, it had some signature a 5th grader could have knocked up. The email address I was contacted through was NOT given on PASS. I practice compartmentalized emailing. One email for each function. One for actors, clients, purchases, product registration, random, etc. They contacted me using my purchase email so it did NOT come directly from PASS (registration email would have been used) , and I bought my AF100 from Bhphoto who would have this email and info probably passed it on.

Seems you're unaware that masquerading as a trusted entity to elicit "any" information is "Phishing." With the web on scam alert these days, schemes have
gotten sophisticated, thus it's hardly an unusual practice to start out with an entirely innocuous email just to elicit a response, et voila, you're off to the races.
I had a room mate get ripped off for $1800 for something I ignored but didn't tell him about and I've since felt somewhat "not guilty" for his gullibility but I wish I had
told him. Not taking any chances. I have no idea why you're taking umbrage at this. When in doubt I come here, and clearly, I'm not the only one who thought
it was suspicious.

Hi,

Courtnee works for Cohn and Wolfe, our PR company. It is legit, and we would like it is you responded. And yes they got the contact info from the PASS registration.

Best,

Jan
