Af100 log and transfer

Hey all. I have been using log and transfer to transfer avchd to pro res 422. It is taking an excruciatingly long time. I am not at the point to run and grab a nano flash but woud love to hear some others workflows and transfer times. Has anyone used usb 3.0 or have any info on Thunderbolt that could speed things up. thanks!

What kind of system are you running? I have a 4 year old MacPro and the transfer times are fairly quick.

it is a hackintosh quad core 16gb ram

Apple has issued a fix for long import times. If you can update to 7.0.3 (I think) it fixes it. Otherwise, use AC3 instead of LPCM.

I don't think it is the bus speed that is the bottleneck, so I doubt usb 3.0 or Thunderbolt would speed things up. The drag is the mathematics the processors have to do in calculating and creating the new media. "Transfer" is a misnomer in this case, it should really be called "Log and Transcode."

I thought the "T" was for "Time Suck" . AC3 makes it somewhat faster, but it's still a time vampire... I'm eager to try FCP-X in this regard.

Could you try using ClipWrap? It also has a trancode option, maybe it will work faster.

I have found Clip Wrap to be much faster, especially for longer clips.
