AF100 Latitude

would be awesome to get something like what Technicolor is doing with Cinestyle for the 5D in our beloved AF100's.

The Single Chip Camera Evaluation pegged it at 10.2, using a different chart than we used. So somewhere in the range of 10+ stops.

Something in regards to compressing the entire range of the sensor before it records the image. I'm not too entirely clear on what it does however. Seems to be some control of the curve pre recording.

Log isn't very fun on the acquisition side of production .. and unnecessary (IMHO) if you're
not mixing and matching media / cameras.

If they did provide log, i would hope they would allow monitoring with it off ..

Recording log in 8bits @ that kind of compression is asking for trouble.

Log would be great on the af100, but again, 8bits. Shoot cineD as suggested.

Can't disagree with you there, however the 5D that they were using, was that not being recorded as 8 bit?

based on what ive watched from interviews, the technicolor doesnt really increase anything... it just makes it easier to grade

I'm guessing it's something like the superflat picture profile with adjustments in the Red Green and Blue curves as well as a fancy name??

It applies a logarithmic curve to the luminance value resulting in a super-lo contrast
image. Sort of like dynamic-range-stretch on steroids. It makes the luminance
values uniform throughout the range.

This allows the post guys to have a uniform luminance space where they can shape
the contrast identically (or nearly so) without worrying about where the media
came from.

Easy on them .. PITA for everybody else :-)
