AF100 iPhone app idea

This would be helpful to me. I rent my AF100 and I've gotten a number of calls while they're in the field shooting asking me how to set this or set that. You know what would be sweet! An iPhone app that simply mimicked the AF100 menu. Then over the phone I could step by step guide them through the menu.

Hmm, this could easily be duplicated on a (ideally non-Flash, I guess) website. Would Panasonic object, though?

If Panasonic or Sony made an iPhone app with simulations of all there camera's in one app I would pay a good $50 for the Panasonic one and another $50 for the Sony one. Having camera menu info at your fingertips could be a life saver for those instances where you get a last minute call to shoot the next day with a camera you've never used before.

Jan, are there any legal issues surrounding the reproduction of the side of the camera and its menu structure? This would be a pretty straightforward thing to create. - Tim

Totally! I'd buy them too!!

Its a cool idea...but why would one need a simulator in the field when one has the camera with the actual menu and buttons?

My need for it has popped up a bit recently when renting. I'll get a call from the shooter in the field asking me how to set this or that and I've wished I had a camera infront of me so I could step through the menu with them. Doesn't happen alot but enough lately were I wished I had some guide because I cant remember off the top of my head where everything is at.

Don't think so Tim. And yes it dos seem straight forward. But to make it really cool it would have the menus over the screens and when you get to each menu choice it would allow you to make the choice. But there are a couple oddities in there, like if you don't have an SD card in there, the choices for interval aren't available for choosing. So somehow you would have to show that the app is able to do something that the camera can only do if there is a card in the camera. This would have saved me and other well known people some head scratching on the NAB floor. ;-)

What I would do is have a slider to represent the SD card slot. That tips you off to the fact that it changes the state of the menus. I'd also want to provide some quickie help for each function. Not at the level of Barry's book, but a Reader's Digest version. I'll dig into this. - Tim

I was going to suggest that the Manual may be helpful at both ends of the conversation then decided that the manual is so sucky it wouldnt work.

(I am still trying to find out what the "EDH" is?)

Go with the smart phone idea.
