AF100 Image Quality

An organization I shoot a lot of footage for has an HVX200A. Until recently I shot everything SD, but they finally made the move into the modern world and will shoot all HD in the future. Good news for me because I can now rent my AF100 as a second camera in two camera shoots - they would only spring for my old DVX100 in the past. Yesterday I shot some test footage with both cameras to try and match "looks." It wasn't hard to get things looking the same - except up on the big monitor the footage from my AF100 was noticeably sharper than the HVX200A. Side by side was quite a revelation. I guess my Zeiss primes and larger sensor made up for the AVCCAM versus 2P situation. And, yes, focus was dead on with both cams. Not knocking the HVX, just glad I got the AF100.

I have both HVX200 and AF100. Sure no doubt. AF100 is better than HVX200.

Way I still using HVX?: Green screen and shots with intenssive post processing.

DVCPRO codec is better for that than AVCCAM, for me.

Jan,

Now that Panasonic is introducing Micro P2, will they upgrade the AF100 with the AVC-Intra codec to record on MicroP2 in the SD slots?

Not only is this a great example of the keying capablilities of the af100, but how well it holds up resolution wise when you are looking at footage on the internet.

I was pretty shocked at how well the GH2 keyed. Better than the HVX200 we use at work, IMO. The AF100 should be similar.

I was surprised how well the AF100 keyed we we used it as I thought that it being 4:2:0 would let it down but it didn't. +1 for Jans comment, use it as your A cam.

I also have a HVX and I have to say I still love it :) I was thinking of selling it 6 months ago, I must have been mad! I'm still shooting with it for broadcast here in Auz and it still gives a fantastic image and still makes money. If you had an AF100 and a HVX in your kit I'd say your covered for almost any situation.
