Here's the link to the third episode in our new webseries, "Brothers Barbarian":

"Give the Dog a Bone"

As with the previous two episodes, the Steadicam Pilot shots were all HVX200, and the tripod shots were all AF100. Editing was in FCP7, with color correction/grading done in Apple Color. The glow effect in the first scene was done in Apple Motion. Sound was from a Rode NTG-3 on a boom along with a Sennheiser G3 with a Countryman B6 lav, feeding into an Edirol R-44 and remastered in ProTools.

For this episode I was able to get more of the look that I've wanted all along. This is largely because most of the scenes for this were shot after our second day, when the camera op felt much more comfortable with the AF100 and what he could do with it. The scene at the bar (inside the tavern) was frustrating, because we had light available, but didn't lift it up as much as we should have.

One of the lessons the camera op learned was that this is not an Arriflex! You can (and generally should) underexpose, but if you aren't careful, you'll get yourself into a situation that you can't fix in post, like this one. Bringing up the lows & mids any further started show some banding and noise. At the other end, the highs on the table in front of the wizard were a bit of a cheat, because we realized we could bounce off the table and give him some fill under his hat, without putting any light on the wall behind him.
