AF100 hack?

I had hacked my 5700$ hvx200 to do 2fps.... :)

But no. Af100 is not hackable. Pity. Would have been cool to get 220mbps intra.

Or brew a great cup of coffee!

While the coffee is brewing, did anyone actually open up an AF-100 to see if isn't hackable?

We heard from Jan, that features are embedded and cannot be changed. We heard from Vitaliy that he is not interesed in it. But I don't recall that anyone ever looked to see if the camera is DSP or FPGA based. If it is, then there are any number of possibilities. If it is ASIC based, then there is no chance of hacking.

Any and all firmware is technically hackable; it's just a case of decrypting it and making it worth one's time. GH2 users probably outnumber AF100 users 500:1 so it's basically not worth the effort to hack it.

Yes, firmware is hackable, but that doesn't tell us what functions can be hacked. If the coding of the AVCHD compression or the function of the switches is embedded in an ASIC, then those functions cannot be changed.

It's just fun to talk about. It would be fun to have someone brave enough to open it up and give a report.

My AF-100 is too busy working for me to worry about cracking the case, voiding the warranty, and risk screwing something up for a marginal gain in performance in what is an excellent camera system.

I thought Vitality confirmed that it was possible, but that he had no interest in doing it as a way to protest the act of purposefully crippling the low end in order to encourage people to buy the higher end products.

I would have though that would have been a reason for him to have done it.

He ecrypted the firmware. He didnt look into the extent what can be hacked

If Panasonic will take a bet of 100:1, I will show them that the AF100 is hackable and that the bit rate can be changed.

The bitrate problem is solved via external recorder like the inexpensive Hyperdeck Shuttle 2. In my opinion the only reason to hack the AF100 is to get a flatter S-LOG type color profile. Maybe it could be called P-LOG :)

50mbs, 4:2:2 would make a lot of people happy. I think by the time a hack is available, there'll be a new camera out. But yeah, +1 on the donations donations page. I'd honestly donate $500.
