Cave scene is in an actual lava cave in Central Oregon - Every major mountain in the Northwest is a volcano.

Looks great Scott. Did you shoot it?

Lots of color for -4 Chroma setting! RED in particular. Is that post or lighting? (Personally I would like to see it a litttle less "chroma saturation" which to me is more cinematic as opposed to TV high chroma saturated looks)

Keen to hear from the DP and/or your self if you saw any of the oft mentioned banding, fringing or black noise issues.

I never see them at all and cant see any in your frame grabs...so I am real interested in any observations about that topic.

Thanks, Craig. Three of us worked the shoot and between us had 120+ years of experience (like a trio of old silver back gorillas in the mist). I was camera op and editor on the project and deferred DP duties to a talented friend, Virgil L. Harper. As for chroma, I was wrong. I shot it at -2 and reduced it 35% more in post. These frame grabs are ungraded. It was after this shoot that I reduced my standard setting to -4 chroma.

The cave entrance sequence produced more black noise than I would have liked but we lived with it. Other cave scenes were shot on a set with more controlled lighting. Overall, saw no banding or serious fringing. All scenes were shot at 270 degree shutter angle and we went for minimalist lighting to preserve the dark nature of the story.

I shot direct to SDHC cards with no external recording device and couldn't have been happier with the codec and the way FCP7 handled it in ProRes.

Scott

Hell, I don't think I have been up till 2 in the morning 3 nights in a row since college - there's my 41 years of experience! If I'd had a bottle of anything, I wouldn't have made it to the second night.

Lucky I wasnt there with you old dudes as well.

The total years of experience would have been almost embarrassing to contemplate and the shoot and wrap stories would have gone on far too long for anyones good if a a bottle of anything was involved!
