AF100, FCP7 - footage inexplicably darker

This may be some version of the "gamma bug," whereby ProRes transcodes have the wrong gamma (2.2 vs 1.8), but it's not on the usually-reported-via-google H.264 export... it's on the import.

Every bit of AF100 footage I shoot is simply too dark... and not just on the monitor, as MPlayerX shows the native clip correctly. It's easy enough to apply a gamma correction filter and bring it back to acceptable, but I'd prefer to find a way to avoid this at the transcode stage. I'm not sure what if any setting I'm missing.

Here's the other odd bit... all my GH2 footage is fine. Also, if I transcode via clipwrap, the footage looks fine... until I bring it into FCP. GH2 AVCHD looks the same either through L&T or Clipwrap.

I have the same issue whenever I export my GH1 footage. Looks fine in the timeline, but when I export it comes out darker

FYI... Apple released FCP X 10.0.3 today that facilitates XML transfer, FCP7 import and multi-cam. Any problems that I ever had with import on '7 have disappeared with 'X. The 64bit processing is giving me the best AF100 footage I have ever edited. I know a lot of pros dissed 'X but I've been using it for two months and today's upgrade really makes it a pro tool. For what it's worth, I'm a lot happier now with imported AF100 files more than ever.

snp, I heard it's a tool to edit with. A good editor friend of mine says you have to relearn the program so he's staying with 7, plus snapping is on perpetually. Has this been your experience?
I ask because I have someone willing to share a volume license with me but I'm hesitant, sticking to my FCS 2 and FCP6.

I'm not switching to x any time soon, so we can talk about that elsewhere. has anyone else had problems on import with fcp7, did you ever solve it, and if so, how?If you're not having problems, what is your workflow and settings?

As it relates to importing AF100 files from the SDHC cards, 'X is flawless. I've had no problems with darker images. As far as snapping, you can turn it on or off. While 'X has different protocols and work flow, once you learn them and go back to '7, which I have done several times, '7 seems tedious and much slower to use.

Regarding color/exposure grading, 'X allows AF100 footage to be graded more simply without having to go to a 3rd-party app or to Color. Apple offers a 30-day free trial with no restrictions so I think it's worth looking at. I also did an online course with: http://www.macprovideo.com/ It really helped understand it.

Scott
