AF100, CD playback, FCP X doesn't sync MP3

Have 19 takes of the full song - the takes I picked all sync up to one another in mulitcam except they don't sync to the mp3 I'm trying to replace the AF100 audio with.
I gave up and did it manually, it starts off synched but after a few bars I have Chinese dubbing.
How can the song start off synched then go way off by the end of the song?
It looks like I'm going to have to synch every single cut!
Has anyone encountered this problem? I even tried pluraleyes. Same issue.

We played the song back on set with a boom box and now I'm editing to an MP3 - could that be the problem?

Probably the MP3 is 44k and the AF100 audio is 48k
Convert the MP3 to 48k and try again.

Its an apple oddity..QT7 seems to have more functionality than QT10 I have both as you probably do...most if not all NLE's like wave format audio better than MP3 less processor strain.
Have a look in your app folder for QT7 if its not already on your dock.

anyhow..say with QT7 file-open your MP3
the QT play bar appears and you can play your track then
File - export and choose .mov as the extension
done

Do you have soundtrack from FCP7 ? Maybe mpegstream clip will convert your mp3 from 44 to 48k.
If I remember correctly, iTunes can convert an audio to AIF 48k (advanced options)

dtz, can you explain a bit more, i'm confused at what point the mp3 comes into play.
If I understand correctly, you shot with your af100 while playing back a cd and you want to synch the track from that cd to the af100 footage?
Where did the mp3 come from?
If possible, I'd just take the original aif from the cd you played back during shooting.

FCP has major trouble with all forms of mpeg. They always result in some sort of synch trouble, I avoid them like the plague and always convert them to aif as early in the process as possible.

Best of Luck.

.
Exactly as you put it, tacotim. I have no idea where the MP3 came from - it's what the artists gave me. I'm assuming they made the track bounced it to a CD and played it, then sent me an MP3 version. Contacted the artists.

I had the exact SAME thing happen. I shoot a lot of music videos and when I have used an iPhone on set for the audio, no problem. Sync was perfect throughout. When I used a bombox and a CD, when I put it in my editor it started out perfectly but by about a minute in it was several frames off and by the end about 1/2 a second. Using a wav file ripped from the very same CD. Drove me nuts. On the first video I had several angles so I just moved the clips around to keep sync but on the last shoot I actually stretched the audio using the peaks of the wave files as a guide. Not ideal but it Actually worked and the change in audio was imperceptible to the artist.

I feel your pain. I'm never using the boombox with a CD gain

Missing Proxy files, does anyone have any experience with this?
My proxy file seems intact on my scratch disk - dunno why FCP can't find the files.
SOLVED!

What created the problem: I renamed a few clips but FCP duplicated the file instead but didn't duplicate proxy media. So the original named file was now without proxy while the re-named file did. Very odd. Why wouldn't FCP just rename the original file instead of creating duplicates. Now ten re-named clips now have twins = 20 clips! But I transcoded to create new proxy, just to get rid of that annoying red error.

Thats interesting ...the only thing I can think of to have caused that would be a budget/cheap CD unit in the boom box perhaps playing the soundtrack a little slower/faster than the tracks true speed.

I fully agree. Boombox - NEVER AGAIN. Digital playback, digital sync. Experience is the best teacher.

Fool me once...shame...shame on you...fool me you can't get fooled again - GWB.
