AF100 banding problem

Is anyone experiencing color banding problems with the AF100? I am seriously considering purchasing the AF100 & in fact there is a great sale on this weekend. But yesterday I went to check out a studio to rent and one of the owners said his friend purchased an AF100 recently and sold it within a month because of banding problems, especially in the dark colors. He said it was because of the sensor and code and suggested I check out the Sony FS100 instead. I am starting to work on my first documentary and need to purchase a good camera very soon. I have been using a GH1 (not hacked) and a prosumner Sony HDV. Thanks!

I'm not sure your friend knows what he is talking about. Just look at some of the footage posted on this site. Enough said.

Thanks, I was surprised myself but he is a professional cameraman himself who uses a Sony EX1 so I had to pay attention and verify if others have experienced this problom.

The only time I have ever noticed it was one time on a big white wall with small hanging track lights... the kind you would see illuminating artwork. Other than that it has been a non issue.

I had some issues early on, but through shooting and settings, I dont see it much, like others have said not more or less than you would expect on a camera of these features and specs. The AF100 puts out a great image, and I am sure the fs100 does as well, i havent tested. but keep in mind both have roughly the same compression values for image and colour, so I would not expect the fs100 to have any less banding, but again I have not tested both. I really enjoy the AF100 and if you are considering it, test it out, I dont think you will notice much banding.
