af100 - AVCHD - Premier Pro & FCP Problems

I recently shot some watersports with the af100. There is obviously a lot of detail and bouncing in the shots and I am experiencing the following problems with the footage:

Importing to ProRes in FCP (7) - I am able to batch transfer all of the (source) clips if I DO NOT mark in/out's or label each clip. Once I start labeling and marking in/out's FCP will give me the wheel of death.
Premier Pro - I import the clips straight into PP and when I try to playback the .mts files, it will play for a second at most then stop and return to where the clip began. (CS5) (this also happens with less motion detail shots)

I am on:
2 x 2.8 GHz Quad - Core Intel Xeon
22 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Mac OSX 10.6.6

NIVIDIA GeFOrce 8800 GT
512 VRAM
7200 RPM hard drive

Any help would be greatly appreciated...new computer?

Is this your first time importing any AF100 footage into FCP and PP, bouncing or otherwise?

If so, maybe do a test of a :10 static shot on a tripod, eliminate motion as a factor?

It certainly seems your machine is powerful enough... In PP, are you copying your Private folder to your HDD, then importing?

It is the first times. As far as PP goes, I did shoot a static shot and still it wasn't allowing me to watch more than a second of footage.

All of the footage is being transferred to my computer then I am importing the footage directly from there. (dragging the 'AVCHD' folder)

Thank you.

I don't know about macs, but are you playing them off a RAID drive?
Also, you mentioned that you were "dragging" them... In Premier Pro, you create a bin/folder and then choose "import" and then go to the RAID where they live and select them and they import that way.
Are you using the Mercury Playback Engine on "Hardware" (graphics card helping) or "software only"?

If I'm reading your post correctly, you need to drag the entire 'PRIVATE', not just the AVCHD folder, onto your computer.

Thank you all for your input. I had a tech guy stop by this morning and look through the computer. I am working on a computer that has multiple users and accounts. After verifying permissions, still nothing. It wasn't until we logged into the Administrator account and tried the footage in both Premier and FCP7 that it would work. Then I was able to log back into my account and was able to playback in Premier no problem and 'log and transfer' (mark in/outs and label) smoothly. He simply said it just takes logging into an administrator account to 'unlock' some paths.

I will drag the 'PRIVATE' folder from now on, but I'm not running into any problems (otherwise) just having the 'AVCHD' folder.

You should be able to play the .MTS files by themselves just fine, but the PRIVATE folder contains a lot of other useful information that isn't possible to put in the .MTS files, like timecode and such.

Very useful information. I just thought it wasn't necessary as it was 'PRIVATE > AVCHD > subfolders' But I will log that info. Thanks you again!
