AF100 at the Beach Protection Tips?

Hey Guys,

This is my first post so please go easy =)

I'm in last year of filmschool just about to buy my first camera which is the AF102 and turns out my first shoot will be at the beach, including shots of a girl struggling above the water which i'm not sure how I will shoot it yet.

I was wondering if you guys can offer any tips in protecting my camera from salt spray, sand in the breeze etc...

it takes a long amount of time to buy anything as they don't usually carry anything in stock over here, I will have to wait a month for my Redrock Af100 rig to arrive so if there are any DIY tips that would be awesome too thanks!

A Ewa-Marine C-AF100 would likely be your best bet, but a UV filter, plastic bag, rubber bands, & duct tape, can be nearly as effective.

Although I already own a Petrol rain cover, I've ordered a camRade WetSuit hoping it double as a dust cover for work at the beach, desert, or when hanging out of a moving vehicle.

I work at the beach often & like to use a marine cooler for camera gear. The high sides help keep sand out & the cooler keeps the gear from getting hot. Either put your bags inside or cut some foam to fit your gear. If you get a big cooler try to find one with rope, & wood, handles as they're easier for two people carry when the ground is uneven. If you find one with a split cover you can sit on one side & work out of the other.

It's also a good idea to lay a Space Blanket (shinny side down) or Furniture Pad/Sound Blanket under the cooler. That way when you kneel down to get at the gear you won't have sand on your knees that may spill in when you stand up.

Alternatively you could bring a card table, or cart, & put your cases on top.

Also consider paper taping over your cams internal mics, speaker, & any buttons you won't use.

Regards,
Bern

Thanks for the suggestions Bern.

I particularly like the marine cooler and paper taping anywhere sand can get in. We'll let you know how we go.

Cheers!
