AF100 and older Sony SDI monitor

Hello,

I'm trying to test a Sony PVM-8044QD monitor, which has SDI in and out, using my AF100 (until the AJA T-TAP is released). Right now I'm just getting static on the monitor. The input on the monitor is SDI component (one BNC connector). Could there be some sort of mismatch? Maybe the SDI in is broken? Analog composit in is working, the only other mode I've tried (from a DVD player).

I'm posting from my iPhone, waiting for Internet to connected after a move, so please forgive any typos. Thanks!

The 8044Q is a standard-def monitor and likely has only composite video input, not SDI. Composite video also uses a single BNC terminal. Are you saying there's a separate port that says SDI on it? You said "SDI Component", but that's not the same thing, component video is analog, SDI is serial digital...

If your monitor actually does have an SDI input, set your output on your AF100 to standard-def 480i, because that's all that Sony will input...

Hi Barry,

Thanks for the quick reply! Yep, this is the QD, which has in and out "component SDI" connectors. It makes me wonder if there's such a thing as composite SDI. I'll give it a shot when I order a T-TAP. The camera works with my Samurai so I know the SDI out is working. I also tried camera into the Samurai and back out to the monitor. I guess at worst this means I'll buy a new monitor.

I just ordered your AF100 book which should arrive any day, and DVD to follow.

Dave

Did you set the AF100's SDI port to standard-def? That might be the problem, if the AF100 is sending HD but the monitor's expecting SD...

I owe you a drink/cigar/steak/pat on the back the next time you're in San Diego. Worked perfectly. Thanks!
