AF100 and new Lumix X 45-175 lens and Manfrotto 521P remote work great together!

OK too bad, now we know that the stepped iris issue has NOT been solved / cured with the X zoom lenses and we're right back where we started. We don't know whether it's a lens limitation, camera limitation, or a combination but the problem has not been addressed with the new lens. Apparently only zooming is improved.

Eithcowich, here are the eBay listings for the B4 lenses, adapter, and accessories to power the zoom function. I'll give 10% off to anyone who wants to purchase any from me directly through PayPal:

@Turbodog hmm... I would have grabbed one -- with this range, and f1.7, and parfocal!!! -- but they seem too heavy for my needs. Also, maybe it's the compression for youtube but the image during panning seems very jittery. Is that your experience too?

The Lumix X lens seems also to be parfocal. Look at this:

Focus was set to manual. Iris to auto. The iris seems to be stepful ;-) Iris was fully open.

Any jitteryness in panning would have nothing to do with the lens. It's either YouTUbe compression or unsteadiness of my hand during high magnification telephoto pans. The lens is rock solid.

That's better, Gugulino, but I'm still not sold on this lens. It appears to be parfocal for most of the range but when you zoom out fully it's not as sharp. I don't know whether that's because the lens just isn't very sharp at 45mm, or whether it's not really perfectly parfocal. I viewed it at 1080 full screen and there are still a couple of brief moments where the focus wavers during the zoom, right around the stop and start points. But it's a lot better than the 14-140.

Also the stepped iris is obviously still a real problem, the auto iris is adjusting exposure in steps again when you zoom out to compensate for the snow. The only way around this is to use manual iris and pre-set the exposure and just leave it. A lot of cine shooters always shoot in manual anyway. But for event -type shooting where you might want to utilize auto focus or auto exposure, this is still not optimal. I still prefer the way my B4 lenses perform, however they are always going to be manual when it comes to focus.

hey could you post some vids on the remote in operation? how the lowest speed and fastest speed zooms are :)

Hi dcloud

I tried to show the different speed levels of the zoom remote. I don't know, if you can get an impression from this video:

turbodog- is that safe for the AF's mount? It looks like it's not a lens weight support issue anymore, but the AF's weight is what can break it off. Its lens mount is only rated at like 2lbs right? The AF body weighs more than that.
That's a lot of weight supported by what looks like a 1/8" piece of aluminum.

Is that B4 to m4/3 adapter base flush with the bottom of the AF, allowing me to attach the camera & adapter to a cheeseplate with 2 bolts?
And does the lens need an exact 12v via the Hirose cable to power up, or does voltage depend on the lens?

thanks. it looks nice.
not as fast zoom but i guess its workable.
im seeing wierd stuttering. i guess thats normal...

No, the stuttering is not normal. I think it comes from the export settings: The AF100 was set to 25fps and the iPhone records in 30fps. Final Cut Pro automatically set the frame rate to 30fps, which I forgot to change to 25fps. Sorry, but normally the zoom is very smooth.

I found out that you CAN manually focusing during Power Zoom with the ring on the lens, but not with the remote. Zooming with the remote and focusing during zoom with the ring on the lens works… Better or worse. I had to turn the ring very fast during zoom in. While zooming out, it was easier to focus. Here is a small test of focusing during zooming:

Yes it's safe for the AF's mount because the tripod mount on the adapter is flush with the bottom of the AF. You should use a plate that covers part of the bottom of the AF, like below. Which also answers your second question. Not sure if the guy who makes the adapter designed it that way or not, but that's how it works out. When you screw down the mounting plate, it's very snug against the AF. The example below is from a Manfrotto 504HD head. This plate is long enough that you can even add a second screw for the AF and make the whole thing very solid from any shifting /rotating.

For all lenses iwth a 12-pin Hirose end, the voltage to power the lens is 12v.
