AF with Atomos Samurai test screen grabs

No, you're talking in a way that suggests

Is this a clever way to try to put words in people's "mouth"? :D

the colours just pop when captured in 422 over 420 as if there is more colour information being captured or that the scene file we see on screen is somehow skewed to looking different when capture via SDI and looks different to the AVCHD and that's not the case. 422 is double the colour resolution of 420, thats it, hence why it's easier to key but we are gaining next to no extra colour information inside the 8 bit output. Lower compression via prores or dnxhd is reducing/removing compression artefacts and giving us I frame encoding but that's it, it doesn't suddenly bloom with colour.

To each his own. I did my tests and to me I see enough color difference to get me to use the Hyperdeck basically exclusively. SSDs are getting cheaper by the minute and IMO it's well worth it. When I bring it into grading I'm so glad I'm not working with 4:2:0. As I said to each his own.

Coming from a user of the AF100 with external recording via the hyperdeck.

By the way we're still waiting to see some of your work Adam, warts an all :)

And chances are you never will, unless you're thinking about hiring me. :)
I'm not in the business of making a name for myself with the online community. For some, this is a viable way and they worry so much about putting their name out there, what people think about them and show as much of their stuff as possible. It worked fine for Bloom for example.
But I don't even have a youtube channel and the only thing loaded to my Vimeo channel is my demo reel, which is private and password protected.

Sorry Adam that just means you are building a name that can't back anything up. You're over 300 posts now and often tell expierenced shooters how it is or "highlight" what we are missing, a little footage of a project you are working on or a link to a film trailer or commercial you shot can be done so easily and without becoming an attention seeker (which you seem to be worried about? I.e. the bloom comment)

just share a little work or some of your tests? It would benefit the community on here and also help for people to take your opinion seriously, I would guess that's what someone of over 300 posts would want, otherwise why the noise? ;0)

I'd love to hire you Adam, if at least to get Zeiss CP2s on the front of the cams ;0) but how would I know to hire you? You have a showreel but its password protected? Word of mouth is extremely powerful as its generally someone passing on good or bad opinions about you or your talent via experience dealing with you.

How would I come to know your work to hire you if even via an owners club forum I can't watch a little of your work?

To each there own but that seems like a very odd business model, I have a Facebook following, YouTube and Vimeo accounts, twitter and LinkedIn for my sports video brand XSVpro. I'm still on a journey as a DP mostly coming from an operators background and people can find this out by approaching me or my business via a number of avenues. I gain corporate and events work via film crew pro and have established a few regular clients and have shown a few directors my showreel to get my foot on a film set to start working towards a future as a DP within film (I love whati do but this is where I want to be).

What I'm getting at is how do you make a living shooting with self publication (what is your secret ;0) and why should we take something you post over say, Shooter or Hscully?

Shooter has a very concise and reasonable, educated response to the op and has work to back it up. Please can we see how you got to your conclusion be it a frame grab or a video?

Regular DVXuser conversation these days. You try and be helpful but get dismissive comments from people that don't back things up. It's not an argument at all, if Adam has some grabs to counteract the op I'm all for learning something and see what he's seeing (being that I have the same setup as him but see what everyone else is seeing) quite frankly i would love to see more pop when using the recorder as well as the known benefits. I generally see what the op sees but with no banding due to my scene file settings but would love to have more SDI and AVCHD comparisons on here.
