Hi everyone!
I seriously cannot understand AF on GH4. I've spent quite a bit amount of time on this but there is so many settings, AFS, AFF, lock button etc. I change setting and do test but still cannot find a pattern. Anyone kindly enough to do some video tutorial (or point me good source thoroughly explaining it), also noting his best settings? Maybe it will finally click.
Sorry for that :)

Thanks!

Yes, that's one piece of puzzle. What about AF+MF, AF/AE lock and combined together? I get some unpredictable results. I've set lock button to focus and when I press it it changes focus. I was like... what?!

AF+MF is very handy. It means when you half press the shutter the camera autofocuses, but you can also at the same time fine tune it yourself manually.
As for the AF/AE lock, its on page 159. I honestly never use it, so maybe who does can explain it better.

I use it as a "back button" autofocus and LOCK. One press does just that, AFS then locks the focus and changes over to MF. It remains in this mode until the camera is powered down or a second press on the AF/AE button which clears it back to default AFS on half press of the shutter button.

AF and MF on one button push

With AF+MF set and MF+ASSIST, turning the focus ring after the first press of the AF/AE button (which locks focus and switches over to MF) the magnified assist "kicks in" and lets me "nail focus" quickly. A half press of the shutter button clears the EVF (or LCD) back to normal view.

Once you get used to this it's really handy.

The "single" AF function is awesome (provided you have AF lenses to use). Half press for perfect focus. Haven't had any luck at all with continuous focus though. Maybe in slow mo but that's it. 90% of my glass is manual focus only though, so it is really mostly MF for on most days. Have you set up the punch in function to one of the custom buttons? That will save you.
