GH5 AF affected by VFR mode?

Anyone notice auto focus being negatively affected when in VFR mode using a m43 AF only lens? I recently shot a bunch of stuff in 48fps using a Lumix lens on a GH5S but I couldn't get close focus and the various AF modes were not available.

I imagine AF isn't available in the VFR mode (as with other cameras).

Maybe a camera owner could confirm.

Yep.
That is correct.
Pick one or the other (variable frame rate or auto focus while shooting video) - can't have both.
I talked to the fine folks at Samy's Camera to verify.

It's too much for the camera...or at least with that older hardware and/or at that price point at that time.

But in general, it's asking a lot for a camera to process and provide internal conforming of 120p over 24p (or whatever you choose) and AF, especially face-tracking. You'll find this to be the case with some Canons and Sonys too. But every year cameras keep improving and don't have these limitations anymore (or eventually shouldn't).

IMO, that's considered a normal framerate. (Even up to 80 or so should be fine.)

Once you get into the 100s, 120s, 180s...too much.
