Why wouldn't we just buy the Fujinon? they make lenses, we make cameras.

Well, this is an old lens and hard to find. It's just a proof of concept. Many here would say such specs are impossible, but there it is!

Can you (or the appropriate Panasonic liaison) ask Leica or Fujinon or whoever to make this for your m4/3's cameras? I would, but I would not know how to even begin to influence lens product lines. The important things are the zoom range, max aperture, and compactness that I highlighted.

Can you offer up a couple of model numbers?

thanks,

Jan

Sure! Also, what I am trying to not re-buying lenses I already have since I'd like to continue to use them on my 7D for stills as well. I know some of these come in Nikon format as well.

Tokina 11-16 F2.8
Sigma 30mm F1.4
Sigma 50mm F1.4
Canon 16 - 35 F2.8 USM
Canon 10 - 22 F3.5-4.5 USM

I cannot remember the specifics on these but we also have

Canon 70-300 with IS
Canon 50mm Macro
Canon 28-135 with IS (kit lens)

I am also about the purchase the Sigma 85mm F1.4 when it ships.

Thanks!
Rick

I will bring it up in the next conversation I have with them, have you explored their cine style lenses, C-mount might indicate it expected a small imager, but take a look at the cine-style lenses. Let me know what you think.

Hi, those are the exact sizes are there only those letters, nothing else? Sorry, I am used to my nikons, and there are always a few extra numbers that define other things like the f-stop or interface.

Y'know what we really would want, a lot? Birger-style mount adapters.

What we really want is a Canon->u4/3 adapter, and a Nikon->u4/3 adapter, that would allow the electronics in the lenses to work with the camera. Pass through the iris and autofocus information. The mount adapter would need a little bit of electronics in it to translate the protocols, but ... how hard can that be? And it'd apply not just to the AF100, but to all u4/3 cameras on the market, so it could be cost-efficient when cross-collateralized across the millions of stills shooters out there.

I e-mailed Birger to consider making such a mount, haven't heard back from them yet. Maybe Panasonic would want to make their own, or commission Birger to design one?

Could be really huge. I know I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I have to think we all would.

Hi I have a question
Will the image circle off that C mount fujinon cover the gh1 4/3rds sensor without vignetting at all focal lengths?

Not likely, not at all. Fixed-focal-length c-mount lenses of 35mm and longer will usually cover a 4/3 sensor; sometimes you can find a lens as wide as 25mm that will cover, but many of those do vignette.

I haven't heard of a c-mount zoom that will cover the sensor at all without vignetting.

You have to keep in mind that the 4/3 sensor size is about 4x larger than the frame that c-mount lenses were designed to cover.

Jan,

this is basically what I am asking for as well. I am not asking Panasonic to make those lenses (or their partners), but to offer an adapter like the Birger design has for the Red One.

But that said, the lens I gave you, I just reported mostly the focal length and the F stop values. I don't think that information is really necessary though in terms of an adapter. Basically, as Barry has pointed out, and electronic interface that converts from the EOS standard to the 4/3 standard you use. In addition, being a separate piece, could be used on all 4/3 mounts on all your cameras.

This would be a FANTASTIC option and I would bet would help to pull in a lot of Canon users who already have a ton of glass that they really like.

Rather than restating my question, is there a list somewhere to indicate what Nikon lenses would be compatible with a AF100 style cam with a currently available lens adapter with with functions working?

From the ad: "Like on most other c-mount lenses that go wider than 25mm it does show some vignetting on the wide end on the m4/3 format"

That's what I thought - I was wondering what it was doing in this thread.
Wow. :(

have you explored their cine style lenses

They are too big and heavy for swift documentary work.

Any Nikon lens can be adapted to an AF100 (or any other u4/3 camera). But no automatic functions (auto-iris or auto-focus) would work. You'd use it as a manual lens.

Adapters for that exist today.

What I'm asking for is an electronically-controlling adapter that would enable auto-iris at least, and perhaps even auto-focus.

Hell, I'd be happy with just being able to control the aperture on Canon EOS lenses since I invested in some nice ones.

Again...see super shallow DOF shot at f/8 with said super zoom.

F8 is not shallow on 1.5x crop factor SLRs. On 4/3" it's even deeper because the sensor is smaller.

The super shallow DOF on your shot is only because you are focusing on something very close to the lens. That rock on that shot must be tiny.

Enough said on DOF. Lets accept it cannot be measured, compared or predicted, it's more romantic.
