AF-100 vs AF-100A in JAPAN as for December 2012

OK guys. Here is the situation in Japan.
They are selling the AF-105 ( Japanese model for the AF100 ) for 2500$ without lens, and the upgrade AG-SFU100G for 220$. The new "hardware" AF105A is being sold without lens at about 4800$ . It means you end up paying over 1K for an upgrade on .. euh ~~ the audio..

If the model is proportional in the US with the 100A and the UK with the 101A, why one would buy the 100A rather than a 100 + the upgrade kit ? Because it has become unavailable is the only answer I can think of.

This could also mean Panasonic may release a new model early next year...

Great news for AF100 owners! Can you find out more details on how the AG-SFU100G upgrade kit is installed? Does it require sending the old camera to a Panasonic service center or can it be installed by the end user? Is it practical for a Japanese resident to purchase the upgrade kit and send it to an AF100 user in other countries?

Powell, the AG-SFU100G is just the upgrade which enables 1080/60P, 50P recording and has been available for a while.

Where is there a new AF105 being sold by a legitimate seller for $2500? That seems ridiculously low, especially given the relationship between the yen and the dollar right now.

What upgrade on audio? As far as I know, the discussed changes in the AF100A (AF105A) were 10-bit output, magnified focus assist, and integrated 1080/60p. The SFU100G only gives you the 1080/60p, and does nothing about 10-bit or magnified focus assist. Hmm, re-reading the Engadget-linked press release, it looks like it also has 1080/60p output on the HDMI; I don't know if an SFU100G-upgraded AF100 gets that capability or not.

We'll have to see what real pricing is when the AF100A is introduced over here. Right now, as far as I know, no press release or official information has been released regarding an AF100A yet. We don't know what all may be changed. We don't know what the price differential will be.

As for Fujiya Avic, any professional videographer with sound experience with the japanese market will tell you Fujiya store in Nakano-ward is a very reputable pro-shop in the Tokyo area.
The yen is at about 80 to the dollar..
I paid 267,800 for the brand new AF105 with a NOKTON 25MM F0.95

the lens alone is being sold for 67,800$, quite cheap when you think it sells for 1,200$ at B&H in New-York

We don't know what the price differential will be.

We don't, but the official release of the 105A and it's price in Japan is the best tool we have so far to speculate ..

Barry .. can I get a free book for the scoop :-)

Can confirm the prices, some are even lower
what I can't find is the upgrade/license key. Where can I buy in Tokyo?

Another thing - does anyone know if the AF100A can do 10-bit @ 60P to an external recorder? If so, what recorder can handle 10-bit @ 60P?

Don't think so as HD-SDI can't carry 60p. You need dual link.

By the way, why all the double posting in multiple threads? It's easier to carry on with the discussion when it's all in one place.

Barry, do you think the 10-bit will help with dynamic-range? Do we have any information that it is a new sensor compared to the old AG-AF100?
I don't expect 10-bit would, by itself, make any difference in dynamic range. But as we don't know anything yet about any possible sensor changes, it's not known if there are any other performance differences.

Was told at bh that the af100 will have the gh3 chips and electronics besides being 10 bit.
If that's the case and lines of resolution is north of 850 then I'm upset with Panasonic. I would've just settled to upgrade to the AF100a instead of moving to the Canon C100. I totally miss Variable framrates already. Would've loved to hear all this info before jumping the gun. (sigh) oh well.
