Hi,

what are your first impressions when using the new panasonic for green screen....how does the codec hold up...how does it compare with ex-1 for the green screen...I have been using the ex-1 with great success for green screen work...

one more question...i have also the option of connecting the camera hdsdi to our in house aja kona 3 card...will I be able to get a pure 1080p 60 frames per second this way...is this the signal that I would be able to capture on my aja kona 3 card...we have some fast raids in the studio so speed shouldn't be a problem...

you see I am trying to find out is buying a aja ki pro mini a necessity or not...if the codec holds up quite well in green screen terms then I will delay my investment in additional gear since I like to keep my camera setup as simple as possible...and since I shoot green screen almost always in the studio where I have also a kona 3 card I could solve the compression issue this way....

thanks for the input

Both the AF100 and the EX record in 4:2:0 color to cards. The AF100 should be okay for simple keying recording to the card but you'd be better off recording to your Kona card if it's complicated stuff. That said, you probably won't be able to record 1080 60p as the HDSDI outputs 60i (60p is recorded internally to the card in 420).

So the answer is do some tests and see if the cards and AVCHD work for your GS work. If it's too complicated then look at the Ki mini, Ninja or Nano.

Hi,

thanks for the reply Henry....if I understand correctly if recording to aja ki pro mini I am also stuck with 1080 60i....it seems that when using hdsdi that would be it...seem like a handicap for me...definitely something worth knowing before buying external recorders...

I've been doing some early test with the AF100 and so far it seems to compare well with my HVX 200 and HPX 500. I'm doing fairly simple talking heads with a well lit green screen but I'm having no problems with Keylight in AE pulling a good screen from the internal cards.

Hope that helps

that helps a lot...coz I am doing the green screen stuff in a control environement and I usually use keylight in ae to do my keys...thanks

My short film in this thread (below) uses AF100 for green screen. I'm definitely going to purchase an external recorder.
