Is it possible to connect Canon 800mm tele lens to AF-100 ? Like this

Seems like it's possible, but does it require something ? Which adaptor goes between ?

The local rental place said it's not possible, and I need a mini35 -adaptor between, but surely that's not the case. At least not in this youtube clip.

Thanks !

Looks like it's connected with a "dumb" Fotodiox EF-to-m43 adapter. You could use that but not have iris control, or find one of the various electronic adapters from MTF or the like.

Moreover, that camera is just waiting to be destroyed. A relatively simple rails system is necessary to relieve strain on the m43 mount, which is only designed to support about 1kg/2,2lbs

I haven't used AF-100 before, and the 800mm tele is a PL mount. For this I need a PL-to-M43 mount ?
Plus of course some rail supporting.

The 800 f/5.6 I've used is an EF mount. Works fine on an AF100 with any EF - M43 mount. Use proper rail support and a sand bag or two to stabilize it, unless your EF adapter supplies power to the IS system.

This one at the cine rental is PL mount, since they rent mostly cine-equipment. I'll see if I can find a place that has an EF mount 800mm Canon. I know for sure that AF100 I'll use comes with at least EF mount.

Just to clarify : 800mm tele offers 16x magnification on full frame, right ? But AF100's censor is about twice smaller than a 35mm ? With a smaller censor I get actually more magnification because of the crop-factor ? But how much more ?

Yes, more magnification. The AF100 is about a 2x crop from a full frame 35mm sensor. No need for an EF version. If the rental house has modded to PL, just use a PL to M43 adapter. The rental house may be able to help you out.

Good luck!

Something like that. Your field of view will approximate that of a 1600mm lens.

I shoot with a Sigma 50-500 semi-regularly, long-lensing with m43 cameras can become mildly addicting.

Great, Thanks.

I also noticed this rental house has a Canon Ultrasonic L 100-400mm EF and a Canon Extender 2x. With this combo I would also get 800mm (looking like 1600) with EF mount, right ? Which would you recommend, 800mm PL-mounted or 400(x2) EF mounted ?

The Ultrasonic 100-400mm is f/5.6 at fullest zoom, and using the extender drops the light by 2 stops so aperture at full zoom would be f/11 . . ?

i'm thinking 800mm (1600 look-a-like) might be even too much, and with a zoom lens we would have some flexibility.. I'm still having some concerns regarding the extender, which might degrade image quality. Therefore using a fixed lens to maintain at least most of the image quality. And with a fixed 300mm with an extender would give us 600mm, and in this case 1200mm field of view. That's 24x "magnification", which is close to what we need.

Yes I know. But back to business: Should I be worried, if the use of extender & tele yields only to f8 or even f11 ?

If I need to use Gain to bring it close to say, f5.6, how much noise does AF-100 introduce then ?

Yes it's doubled so 800mm on a 5d becomes 1600mm on an AF100. You need a PL to M43 converter - try MTF Services or Hot Rod for the best ones, plus you'll definitely need good rails support or you'll snap the camera into bits! By the way, what's so far away that you need 1600mm? Are you a spy?

The 100-400 is non-constant aperture of f/4.5-5.6 I believe, and yes, the 2x teleconverter loses 2 stops.

But you're going with a 600, not 800?

Remember you won't be able to control aperture without an electronic adapter like the RedRock.
But if it's good daylight, you probably can use low ISO and ND 1 or 2.

And use the biggest head and strongest/stiffest legs you can.

And just remember, it's not "crop", it's not "magnification".
It's cropification...

Hah ! Great tips, thanks. We're doing the test shots "analog" without electronic assists. I booked the stiffest tripodsystem available for us now. We'll see.
And thanks for the "cropification", awesome :)

Fingers crossed for sunny day !
