I've got a render going -- it's coming up on 24 hours. It's taking it's time, yet there don't appear to be any bottle necks. I'm wondering what I can do, if anything, to speed things up.
Win7 64bits, i-720 quad core (8 virtual cores), resource monitor shows all eight cores running about 30% each. Six GB memory, resource monitor shows about .5GB free space, and it's pretty constant. Resource monitor shows very little disk activity (very few hard page faults, much lower than 1/sec, and disk queue lengths averaging less than 0.05). And there's no network activity to speak of, beyond the threads talking to each other on localhost, and very little of that. So I don't seem to be CPU, memory, or disk bound. Hmmm...
What there are, are lots of threads. This render is being driven by Encore (prep for writing a DVD), and between Encore, AE, and PPro, there's over 220 threads involved.
So... why CPU utilization only 30%? Why not using all the RAM available?
