hello..i am filming a doc soon and am working with 2 dvx100b's and 1 hvx200. I do not have any p2 cards now but could rent.

question about the hvx when i record to minidv. is the 480i/24p as good as the dvx100b's 720/24p? will it match up? CAn i use the hvx to record in 720 on mindv? I plan on recording in stretch 16:9

i tried to search it....couldnt find an answer

thanks for any help

The DVX is an SD camera so it doesn't support 720/24p in any form whatsoever. The only thing that the DVX can shoot is 480, it can be 480 24p/30p/60i but nothing else. The HVX can also only record SD to tape, but can record numerous HD formats to P2 or an external storage device.

The HVX and DVX can be setup to match each other very closely when shooting SD.

Staunchy1,

You cannot record HD to tape on the HVX200. The mainstream options would be P2 card; Firestore or HDRack.

There was an article by Barry Green (methinks) on the improved image quality of the HVX in DVCPro25 over the same format in the DVX cameras. Search around for it - there were side-by-side images and the whole bit.

We've shot DVCPro25 for broadcast with one HVX200 and one DVX100 and the HVX looks appreciably better. Shooting HVX200 as your A-Cam in DVCPro50 (again, using the three methods in sentence one) will yield significantly better image quality over any images you'll get with the DVX100(a/b).

It will still have the gamma and 24-frame cadence you're accustomed to with the Panasonics, but everything else in the image should show significantly higher quality.
