advice on the newest Audio Technica 1800 series

Hi fellas,

I've recently invested in a set of Audio Technica 1800 - the dual wireless system. Very cool product for that price but still I've found some problems using it.

The audio that I've recorded on a HDV-Z1 turns out hissy, especially when talents start speaking their dialogues (it sounds like an inefficient compander working.)

Also, when tapping off line signals (of a live sound mixer for e.g.), the LCD screen on the transmitter turns out red and the sound is distorted, even when the sensitivity of the transmitter is set to lowest (-6dBu).

Any one else that bought the same model as me and face these problems or any experts can give me some advice?

From the testing I read on RAMPS that sounds about par for the quality of that w/l but perhaps you have a bad unit. Are both tx equally bad? If you post a sample we might be able to tell you if it falls in the range of crappy w/l or broken w/l.

What is the mixer putting out? You should always have a couple of pads around for times like this.

Cheers

yes, i will do that, as soon as i get a hold of the rushes. if i use it as a camera sends, then i am using my wendt x4 which can output line or mic signals no problems. if i am using as a wireless live feed for concerts, then have a bit of problem cos usually they will send me thru a auxilliary line output.

I had the 1800 here for several months for review and never had any of the problems you mention.

Hissy audio sounds like a gain staging issue; something you need to correct.
Same with overloading the input.

And, BTW, NOT typical of Audio-Technica.
