Advice on GH-2 Rental Package

Hello!

I'm looking to put together a nice GH-2 set-up for my use, but I'm involved with Producers/ Directors of small projects in the $5,000 to $25,000 budget. Example the funds were raised for a $20K short for Humane Society Charity. I won't be directing this one but I've close with the Producer. And she'd just as well rent a camera package from me.

So, for an all around package to be used cinema style, I'm guessing that would fit into two large travel cases, what essentials would you like to see?

Camera Body
Extra Batteries (Charger)
20mm 1.7
Zoom Recorder
XLR Cables
Shotgun mic, windscreen, headphones, boom
Tripod and head
Flex Tripos Mini
Matte Box
Follow Focus
Rails
External 5 " monitor and Articulated Arm
Slider
A couple small light panels
Vari ND filter
Graduated ND filter
SD cards (Holder)
m43 Mounts, Canon, Nikon, C-mount

So, perhaps some advice on a basic lens set, and anything I may be missing to round out the package.

The key is the package maybe used by a non HDSLR or 5D/7D experienced cameraman.

So I'd want it complete enough for them to shoot what ever is required.

Thanks for your advice. Also any links to commercial rental houses that have such camera packages either GH-2, 5D or 7D, for comparison.

Hi Max: You might consider using 16GB or smaller SDHC cards. The GH2 in highest-quality 1080p24 24H mode records about 45-min. on a 8GB card. I'm a big believer in not putting too many eggs in one basket; using relatively small-capacity cards reduces your risk if something goes wrong with a card or camera.

Speaking of which, you might budget for a backup camera, too. Preferably another GH2, or possibly a hackable GH1. These cams are fairly reliable, but things can go wrong -- usually when you can least afford it to happen.

Along similar lines: At least 1 extra cable & adapter of each type in your kit. Cables & adapters go bad more often than anything else.

Also: You mention m43 lens mount adapters, but what about lenses? Maybe a f2.8 or faster used Nikon "thrifty 50mm"?

Cheers.

Hi Peter,

Well I shoot a GH-13, have the 20mm, 14-45mm, some other lenses, c-mount 25mm, 35mm. The basic thought behind this thread is I have some equipment. I have an opportunity to rent a "Package" to people. But what I currently have is bare bones. Someone on another thread had a nice Anamorphic adapter, a couple lenses and some diopters. He presented it in a nice case for rental.

So, someone who hasn't spent as much time as us researching HDSLRs or GH-1/2s, who needs to shoot high quality material, could rent my package, and it would cover most of the bases. Obviously, if they needed long tele lenses, or steadicam etc, they can get that themselves. But just a nice all around set-up.

Any advice on lenses as well. Maybe 4 total. I have the 20mm, 14-45mm, ---
