Hi,
I am doing a concert shoot this Sunday afternoon from 2:00-5:00pm. The concert will be in an enclosed auditorium.
Here's the brief lighting set-up that is already at the auditorium. There will be 2 powerful spotlights shining towards the stage to illuminate the main characters. Also, on the stage itself, there are 4 "disco" lights. These lights are mounted on the stage floor & can pan & tilt as their light shines forth towards the audience.
I will be positioning my dvx100a some 20-25 feet from the stage so I frame the stage & the orchestra at the same time. I'll be using scene mode F5 for progressive recording. Audio is not a concern as sound is of good quality from speakers.
My concern is during the concert, most lights will be dimmed & these 4 "disco" lights I mentioned will be panning & tilting & shining their bright white lights at the audience (and also into my camera lens). These 4 lights are very bright & glaring. Should I adjust my F-stop optimally & dis-engage the auto-iris so the iris doesn't open & close whenever the disco light shines into my dvx's lens? My dvx will be on tripod & positioned at one strategic spot.
I want to get a film, movie look. Should I choose cine-like, or should I choose cine-like D for better dynamic range, or even cine-like V?
How about Scene file settings? I know that the surrounding will be pretty dim, so should I set my master-ped to -7 to crush the blacks? What if the image looks grainy? Should I adjust the DTL coring up or down to illiminate most of the graininess? I don't want to use any for of gain. What exactly is "A.IRIS Level"? In my dvx manual, it says "for setting the auto iris target value", but I plan to use manual iris all the way.
For focusing, I plan to turn on Env DTL (peaking) to help with sharp focusing. Should I also change my setting so that the EVF is in black & white instead of in color to aid in better focussing?
I would really appreciate all your advice on this & also on scene file settings you would recommend for this specific concert shoot. Thank you for your suggestions in advance.
Andrew
