I've been shooting with the DVX200 for over 2 years, primarily corporate. I don't use the AF very often, because the content doesn't require it. Last night I worked an ice show for a friend. He had me shooting full-skater shots (technically a "long shot"). The camera was set for UHD/100M/29.97.
I warned my friend ahead of time that I'd never used the camera's AF in a situation this demanding before. Sure enough, the AF struggled more than I would have liked. Many times I had to zoom to a wider shot to get the AF to lock, then zoom back in. I judged that I was still getting better results than if I'd switched to manual focus. It was challenging enough tracking the skater, adjusting zoom, and adjusting iris real-time!
I know the DVX200 has the ability to customize the AF. Has anyone experimented? Results?
