Advice for shooting conference

I shot ACCU last year using a couple of small parmcorders and this year they only want a single camera so will use my AF101. The big issue is that there is a projector screen in shot and a presenter so there is a BIG dynamic range. The videos were variable but there is one of the most problematic at http://www.infoq.com/presentations/estimates-importance.

Was wondering how best to set up the camera for this type of thing? Was wondering if DSR (mid?) may be a better bet than KNEE?

When I've done a few of these single-cam, I ask for the powerpoint/whatever as a separate file to cut in as graphics (direct cut, PIP, etc) and keep the single camera on the presenter. Once, to help the edit for quick turnaround, I held up a finger in front of the lens to cue cuts-to-PP.

Alternately, to save yourself the headache, just bring one of your palmcorders to set up static and record nothing but the screen. Sync, multicam, and chop with glee.

Nothing but poor results when trying to expose for both presenter and screen, IMO

As to the AF itself, DRS does introduce a good bit of noise. I've used DRS1 from time to time, but it does tend to muddy things.

I am only dong shoot, they do edit. Problem with inserting PP is presenter walks in front of screen a lot, often pointing at it.

Was mainly wondering if it was better to rely on KNEE or DRS.

Need to get as good as I can.

Any way to light the speaker? Maybe a spotlight... you could set the camera just tight enough to give the speaker room to move from one end to the other end of the screen while you point the spotlight on him.

There is some directional lighting but the speaker walks around a lot. They dont want to compromise the look of it for the audience, as they are paying. I think the only option is to try to set camera up best as I can.
