I've been assigned to do a spot for this year's Macau GP. I'm planning to use the HVX for some shots. This spot is to be aired on SD Broadcasts all over Asia. Here's what I plan to do:
1- Shoot DVCPRO 50 in 4:3, and edit on a DVCPRO 50 timeline in FCP.
However, I have to use lots of stock footage, mainly from Betacam SP and Mini-DV (DVX footage I shot for the last couple of years). This footage is all 4:3.
I have the possibility of editing in a Higher End environment latter on in the process, but need to present a rough cut by 18th May. The good part is, I already have the concept and storyboard, and know what I want. So its basically capturing the old stuff and importing the new Stuff. I already shot some dvcpro50 footage for this particular spot.
My editing equipment is a Powermac G5 Dual 2.7 with 3gb RAM with two internal SATA drives plus two external Lacie D2 250 GB Hard Drives. I Have Final Cut Pro 5.04 (Studio). The rest is common stuff like Sony SD PVM monitor, Basic audio speakers, etc. No Kona Card or component inputs. I'll have to do the rough cut with footage imported by S-Video and converted to either DV or P2 (I'll try recording the stuff to the P2 by the S-video In in dvcpro 50 format
)
What do you guys suggest? WHat should I work with in this "rough cut" ? If I go the dvcpro 50 route, How do I conform the DV and Beta SP stuff to DVCPRO 50 in FCP? Will this degrade the quality of my material? Is this significant?
Evinsky and some of the fellow TV comercial directors out there, how are you doing your editing? Can you shed some lights to a fellow dvxuser, here?
Many thanks to you guys!
