I am SO sick of all the stupid ads on TV and radio! It is INSANE. NOTHING is what they say it is any more and things are totally out of control.
So what caused this? Is it a non-stop lobby of Congress to allow companies to make ANY degree of promise they want... regardless of the truthfulness of it?
Does anybody remember when state lotteries were brand new and the ads used to have a disclaimer at the end which clearly stated "this advertisement is for information and not intended to encourage gambling"?
Now they just say you'll probably win the lotto if you just buy a ticket! In Saint Louis we have a radio ad that has the narrator talking to a waitress... he asks her if she buys lotto tickets... she says "only when it gets over 10 million dollars" then the narrator says "why wouldn't you buy a ticket for a million dollars?" and the waitress says "hmm... I don't know." So the narrator says "I guess a million dollars wouldn't really change your life, huh?" And just then you hear her boss yelling at her to get to a table.
I mean WTF? Talk about preying on the little people.
I'm also bothered by all the XBox 360 commercials which talk about the stunning graphics and they show what looks like it COULD be the graphics of the actual gameplay. My nephew got one and it is NOTHING like they depict! I wonder how many people get sold on the images that they will never see... since it IS the best console you can get and the graphics ARE good... but c'mon! For anybody that's seen FarCry, D3, or HL2 on a 6800 or better graphics card the new XBox is a total yawn.
So what's your favorite false (or stupid) advertising?
Another one is the Seiko watch commercial where everybody explains that it isn't a certain facet of materialism that defines you... and after everybody says each thing that it's not... they all end up saying that it IS, however, your watch!
