FS5: Advert filmed with Fs5 and DJI Ronin featuring more that 20 sports in 1min!

What camera settings on it? (If you accept to share of course)... Metabones converter? Very very nice work, congrats!
 
Thanks a lot! We filmed it all internal at 1080/50p in Slog3 and we used the Metabones speed booster with the Canon 16-35mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.2 lenses.
 
Fantastic frames and editing, the sense of energy is terrific! I think it's all come together beautifully except for the grade, which hasn't really done your pictures justice (in my opinion).

I think grade is often about personal taste and feel of what you want your film to look like, but of course I fully understand that this garde will no be liked by everyone as it is a little creamy and de-saturated.

We first gave it to a coloriste but every time he sent it back to us it was way to contrasty and colourful for our taste... so at the end we went for my grade made with Luminetri. Maybe it was also the fact that we where mixing footage from the Gopro (flat), Fs5 (Slog3), the Phantom 3 (flat) and that it was all shot using available light.

I'm interested to know what kind of grade would you have done with a project like this?

Yes, I agree it's down to taste, and if that is the look you were going for then that's that and all fine. If it were me, I'd have gone for something with more pop - more contrast and natural colours with more saturation. I'd also get rid of the yellow/green tint on those interiors.

I find these kind of looks coming from editors growing used to viewing log gammas and then when grading happens everyone wants flat :)
 
Steven, that was spectacular! I was a fan of the color also, especially for a quick ad like this. Having more saturation and contrast would make it feel less stylized and cohesive to a single brand.

Anyway, I would love it if you helped break down your process in creating something like this:
  • Was this storyboarded/planned out so that the transitions would be dynamic or were the transitions realized in post?
  • Were you on a vehicle for the side tracking shots (ex. the first shot)
  • All the sports are staged for the camera, correct?
  • Did you have to light any of these scenes?
  • Are any of these shots sped up more than 100% (other than the wrapping around fencing shot)
  • What was the crew size? Was it just you or others from your end?

About our process:

All the transitions were storyboarded/planned before the shoot. Some ideas came also during the shoot. We did find some transitions in post using the fast gopro movements.

Were you on a vehicle for the side tracking shots (ex. the first shot).
We did all the tracking shots handheld with the Ronin apart from the first shot where we used an electric gardening kart and for the 2nd to last shot (with the title "Sports à vivre") where I was pulled on a small kart by two people.

All the sports are staged for the camera, correct?
Yes they were all 100% doing their sport for the camera.

Did you have to light any of these scenes?
No, no lights where used.

Are any of these shots sped up more than 100% (other than the wrapping around fencing shot)
Yes, a very few shots where sped up to give a little more power.

What was the crew size? Was it just you or others from your end?
We where a two man crew. We were filming one after the other with the Ronin as it is very heavy on the back when you run around with it.
