Hi,
i guess the 5d mark ii has these advantages over the t3i :
- shallower depht of field
- low light (shadows are more gradual)
- more options for wide angles
- more robust body

I know people use the GH4 now and other cameras, but if you had to chose to buy a 5d mark ii or a t3i, is there a significative difference that makes the price tag really worth it for a mark ii?

I have a t3i, but i'm hesitant to buy a mark ii.

Thanks in advance,

thanks,

The full-frame "look" and shallow DOF would probably be the main reason people would buy the 5D over the T3i.

A Txi with Magic Lantern will give you the same ISO adjustments that the 5D has. Keep in mind that the Full Frame of the 5D is more like VistaVision as far as video/film is concerned, it's a different look. I think this is actually a better reason to get the Txi. It's the same size as most motion picture film, so your lenses will behave in a similar way. An advantage for the 5D however is that with Magic Lantern, it is capable of shooting RAW, which could be good or bad depending on you and your workflow.

Personally, if you really have no option other than those 2, I'd go for the T3i. That way you won't spend as much now and you can start saving up for something better.

If you can stretch your budget a bit and shop around used, you can get much better cameras. GH4 and A7s are available for <$1000 and <$1500 respectively. You can even find used FS100's and AF100's in the ~$1000 range these days. Plus there's cheaper cameras like the G7, A5100 & A6000 which do come with their own problems but have a much better image than the comparatively ancient 5DmkII. All of these cameras have the benefit of being able to use a wider variety of older glass, so you can save money on lenses to make up the price difference.
