Adobe should open source Encore CS6.

If they have taken it off the market with no plans to return to it, they should open source it and give it to others who can continue on with it. Even just for those of us that want to use it because we know it have very little if any other options.

I came to this realization last night when I bought my first blu-ray burner with the intention to create blu-ray versions of my HD videos. Of course I completely forgot they took Encore out of CC and quickly found myself up a creek without a paddle. Especially on a mac.

Does anyone know any other solutions for authoring blu-ray discs on a mac?

If you download Premiere CS6 from CC you get Encore CS6 along with it. It took me forever to figure it out but it's still there.

They can't. Much of Encore isn't Adobe's source code. They licensed it from someone else. IIRC, that someone got bought, and that product was discontinued. Adobe didn't want to bother developing that code in house, and couldn't find another source, so they just dropped it.

I feel your pain, but Adobe can't open source Encore, at least not unilaterally. I'm pretty sure they aren't going to spend their corp. lawyers' time persuing this either.

That said, this situation sorta proves the importance of the whole open source concept.

Why should they?
They don't have any responsibility to the world to open source anything.

No, 'they' don't. And that's why people are beating the Open Source drum, because of that growing orphanage of unsupported software, and the cavalier method that some companies use to deal with 'older products'.
