alright so in about a month i will be getting my new custom built pc. which means i will be getting new editing programs. has anyone used premier elemtns 4.0? or should i just settle with 3.0? thanks in advance

opt20filmer,

don't think you are going to find a premier elements editor here, but if your just starting out, either program is good.

this forum has many advanced users of the dvx100 series and many of the guys / girls spend thousands of dollars on equipment. they are not going to use a 100 editing program for it.

it is a start, and if you own it already, it will give you the basics of editing and authoring, but read up on Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 or CS3

and Final Cut Pro.

looks like your talking about PC so maybe Premiere PRO 2.0 is for you.

best of luck with choices, but read lots before you buy, be sure its the way you want to go.

I use Premiere Elements, works great!
Probably the best price/quality ratio out there for NLEs ... my recommendation for the best starter editor software by far.

I haven't used version 4 though, so I'm not sure on it's differences from version 3.

The above said, it is consumer software, and while fine for getting you started, it will probably come up short as you move into more advanced production. If you are building a custom editing computer, but can only afford to start with Prem. Elements at first, I'd say get any version of elements and get started with that, and then move up to Premiere Pro once your skills and budget allow.

I have also used premiere elements 3.0 for quite some time. It was a really handy program and it gave me a good start now that I have gone on to Pro CS3.

I did notice that 3.0 had some problems identifying newer cameras, so that alone might make it worth getting 4.0.

I personaly think Premier Element has exciting title tools. I currently use Adobe CS. Yet, I am thinking about buying Elements to improve me titles. Just my 2 cents.

I have Elements 4 and Pro2. As an editiing newbie I actually like Elements better................... :bath:

premiere elements is crap. The text rendering implementation is buggy as hell and crashes all the time. Search the adobe forum. Tons of complaints about it...

While I only recently bought my DVX100B and am a newbie to this forum, I've been doing some work for a filmmaking class using a Panasonic PV GS320. My computer is one that I assembled myself with XP as the OS. As I am living on a fixed income and after pinching pennies to buy the DVX, I simply cannot afford the high end of anything, much less a $3000.00 computer (I hate Macs, by the way), I built my own PC with an expenditure of around $350.00 (I never buy factory-made, proprietary computers). Keeping with this frugality, I purchased an NOS copy of Adobe Elements 1.0 ($25.00 from Amazon) and installed it on the computer to edit my class projects. (The lab at school uses iMacs & Final Cut Express and I do not like either; too many problems with both.)

Since I installed Elements on my computer, I have had no crashes or freeze-ups; in fact, I have had no problems whatsoever. Captures from my cameras are a cinch; editing is quick, smooth and easy; the resulting product is very satisfactory. In addition, imports of other video files (except .MOV but there are conversion programs for that) come off without a hitch.

So, for less than $400.00, I have a system that does what I need to do, when I need to do it.

I realize this might sound a bit opinionated and I do not intend to offend anyone, but it's just my own experience. The point is, the idea is to get that film made and get it out there, not how much you spend doing it or how fancy your gear is.
