Adobe offering 50% off to switch from Apple and Avid

I like the line, "You're a pro. Make sure your toolset is too." lol

I also like that we have the whole summer to decide and by then we should know more from Apple or at least we hope.

Yo I'm a pro. How do I know? I use Premiere Pro, designed by pros for pros. So now alla y'all kno I'm a pro fo sho.. :costumed-smiley-047

Wow, this is just brutal, not that I feel sorry for Apple at all. If you are going to screw up this badly, you deserve everything you get. With this price reduction, people will be switching over to premiere pro like gangbusters. I have been a long time user of both programs and when you put FCPX and CS5.5 side by side, you would have to be mad not to pick Premiere.

Is this offer valid for users of FCPX? If so, it seems like it would be a good bargain to buy FCPX just to get the 50% reduction on Adobe suite.

Not just FCP and Avid qualify. In addition to other legacy Adobe apps, if you have and older version of AE (back to version 7) you qualify for the full suite at 1/2 price. Much better than Avids offer.

How do they know you have avid or fcp?

They don't... enter the promo code "SWITCH", and it knocks 50% off the price of a full version regardless (there is a little yellow sign to the side of the page). I went through the check out procedures right to the point where you pay because I was curious... and I'm already a CS5 owner. So it really doesn't matter what you own, or if you even own anything. Enter the code, and there you go. Applies to download or boxed versions.

Seriously, that is one helluva deal... I just wish they let you use the code for CS5->CS5.5 upgrades :)

I agree, this is a smart business move from Adobe. I am sure the Flash war is very present in their thoughts.

The Flash peeing match aside (I'm sure the folks at Adobe are getting no small amount of amusement from all this :) ), this is a brilliant business move. I already know one person who's taking advantage of this... and since it's for a larger church he's probably buying two or three copies. Multiply that by, what, 5,000? 10,000? Even if they only make 50% of their normal revenue per unit, given the volume plus future upgrades all these people will be buying into, and Apple just made Adobe an easy several million dollars.

If I am using the FCP "switch" promo, can I get the CS 5.5 suite for Windows or am I only allowed to purchase the Mac version at the discounted rate?

I ask because if I do decide to run Adobe CS 5.5, I will also be building a PC for it while keeping my current version of FCP on my Mac.

I went through the process right up to the point of charging my credit card... if you use the "SWITCH" promo code, it doesn't matter. I had a full Windows version in my cart, and it still knocked 50% off. I saw a blog post on Adobes website where they were saying this was aimed at both FCP and Avid users, so I honestly don't think they care who's buying or for what platform.

Awesome. I figured it wouldn't make sense to limit which OS we wanted to get it for.

I just noticed I have until end of September to decide too. That is great, as it gives me time to do more research on PC components and to decide if I am 100% committed to going that route with CS 5.5 (I probably will, but I need to figure out what my options are and how much I want to spend on the whole thing). This is great though, as I thought I would probably buy a second Mac Pro maybe a year from now. I think I will keep the one I got and maybe see if FCPX is where I want to go maybe two years from now. Building a PC seems to be about half the cost of a new Mac Pro and I would be getting more software with the Adobe package compared to say upgrading to FCPX right now.

Wow. I personally don't have a copy of AE or Premiere for myself, just my work copies. I might pick this up for me to have outside the realm of my job.

nektonic-

does the adobe suite work that much faster on a pc platform rather than a mac?

not to challenge or start a flame war, i just want to know.

but is that opinion anecdotal or backed up by testing?

thanks in advance to those who care to share.

be well
