Adobe moves to Creative Cloud, Cancels Creative Suite

Yes - compelling features. And once Adobe has released enough new features to move a strong majority of people to subscribe to the cloud, Adobe will no longer need new "compelling features"

Yes. And then the price goes back up. And up and up. Then what do you do?
You pay up or are left high and dry with nothing, asking yourself, " what happened to the good deal?"

Of course, the one silver lining is that when prices go high enough there's incentive for other companies to step in and try to gain a foothold. But that can be a pretty long and uncertain process.

And so it begins...

Doesn't give an option to NOT automatically renew, just cancel.

When I had a steady stream of work to pay for it, CC made total sense. Not so much now, although I'm a bit bummed since I just started getting hooked on Lightroom :) Still not sure if I'll continue or not.

You'll have to buy it of course, but then you'll own it and never need pay Adobe again. As I posted earlier in this thread, LR5 still has perpetual licensing because it has competition. As long as that continues, Adobe will have to keep releasing pay-once-own-forever upgrades.

Unfortunately I never bought LR before CC, and it wasn't part of the CS5 Production Premium. I learned to get by with Bridge/Camera Raw for most of what I did. Trying to see if I can sell my CS5 copy to help pay for keeping CC, but if not, I think CS5 served me well enough that it will work for me for a few more years, or at least until I get doing more consistent paid projects.

LR was always a standalone piece of software until CC. Amazon sells the full boxed LR5 for $137. Of all the Adobe software, it's the one I actually use the most these days. Upgrades are generally about $80 when they come out.

Now that Davinci Resolve 11 is announced and will be a full blown NLE, buh-bye Adobe... this was the next move I was waiting for. Nice knowing you.
