Adobe Illustrator to After Effects

Ok, I have an odd request. I've just opened up AI for the first time today (it's a prebuilt file for me). I have a political map of the world all in shades of gray. Through the course of a video, as we cut back to it, we want to highlight different sections. I have about 20 files, all with different areas highlighted. And I could just fade the other ones in as we bring a lot of them into the video. The only problem with that, though, is I'm building this flat image ito a "3d" model in AE. Is there a way to just add color to different sections of the map (now a globe), as it turns?

Easiest way is to take the areas you want highlighted and put them on their own layers in Illustrator. Bring that into AE as a composition, then use that composition in place of your Illustrator file. That way you can go into the composition of your Illy file and highlight the layers you need which will reflect in the final comp, which I'm assuming is using the CC Sphere effect. In that case, you'll apply that effect to the composition of your Illy file.

Ah, I gotcha. And keep an alpha channel on that file so you still have the other countries in there ... good call.

New question: As I'm zooming into this AI file, it's becoming pixelated. It's a vector image. It shouldn't do that. What can I do to clear that up? Yes, I clicked "continuously rastorize"
