Adobe CS5 on a laptop?

Hi guys,

I have been using Adobe CS2 (premiere pro and after effects) for quite some time now. I find that I am now traveling a bit more throughout asia and even africa this year. I wanted a smaller camera and got a Canon HF10 for portability, now I'm looking to upgrade my computer and Adobe software.

My question is: Will the either/both of the following laptops be able to handle Adobe CS5, editing AVCHD, some after effects and maybe a few layers of video for a project. If either, which is the better recommendation?

1. Macbook Pro, 15.4'': Intel Core i7 2.66GHz, 4GB Memory, NVIDIA GeForce GT330M with 512MB
2. Sony Vaio F115F/M: Intel Core i7 (quad core) 1.6GHz, 6GB Memory, NVIDIA GeForce GT330M with 1GB

I know that neither one of the graphic cards are under Adobe CS5's compatibility listing for the Mercury playback engine...will this mean that CS5 will be unusable on a laptop? Really need the portability.

Sorry if this has been discussed before but really appreciate your input!

not unusable, u just wont' get mercury playback HARDWARE acceleration, you'll still get software which means it is taking advantage of the 64 bit processing. At the moment no mobile nvidia card is compatible with Mercury playback, so i would go for the fastest most amount of cores possible processor, and max out your ram, and get at least a 7200 rpm hd for the laptop, SSD even faster. You should be able to cut avchd rather smoothly.

test with no mercury playback hardware acceleration

desktop on my old gamin pc just to see if older specs are still good
2.6 ghz quad more (not i7)
8 gb of ddr 800 ram
running from the usb on a lacie RUGGED DRIVE, 5200 rpm
Non compatible, gtx 8800 card for mercury playback.

i was still able to playback 1080p 5d Mk II footage 29.97 at half resolution, flawlessly. If you have the advantage of a faster i7, faster ram, and faster hard drive to read from, avchd should be no problem.
