Adobe CC will credit your account for 90 days due to COVID19.

Thanks for the tip! I have a yearly subscription to Adobe CC and it had just renewed automatically on March 14th! The customer service representative was very helpful and refunded me 3 months of my subscription. That helps me a lot right now.

I forgot all about this until last night... Tried it... Still works: account credited for 90 days. Thanks again for the original post!

I hate monthly squeezing. So No adobe. I was forced to take it once for a project and immediately stopped the same month. I have been using FCPX since it came out. Nevertheless the three month subscription is a good thing. Given the current and future state of economy they should give a 1 year subscription.

I've been quite happily Adobe-free for years now... I'm using ON1 for organizing photos and most of my photo editing, Affinity when I need more sophisticated photo finishing tools... Resolve as my NLE and DAW, Scratch and Mistika for color grading... for compositing, both Fusion and Mistika… :)

This is a good move for Adobe. If they weren't offering this then some users being in hard times would lapse in paying and thus be cut off and also lose access to all previous projects as well. Such users then being unhappy with adobe might not come back when they had money again so adobe would stand to lose more income long term. So the 90 day offer helps the struggling end user now and will also keep them as a customer to pay again soon

Looks cool. Does it come with a tangent element panel in the subscription?

The website is a bit confusing, as it is so minimal.

Assimilate doesn't sell or rent panels. The site could use some usability optimizations. I've just gotten used to it, I suppose.

Yes, and the depth of the integration is pretty good. I have a Tangent Wave 2; it works in Resolve though the integration is mediocre since it's closed on the BMD side of things, the Scratch integration is pretty good, and the new Mistika integration is excellent.

Yeah, and the way BM tiers their panels, makes it a little less accessible to the camera person. which isn't the worst thing.

The Wave 2 looks pretty powerful if integrated well. I'll look more into the Mistika stuff.

Yeah, most of the time I find that camera people tend to be LUT wranglers rather than colorists, though some get into color grading as well.

I'm really looking forward to putting the Scratch LiveLooks/Assist tools to use, because it will be nice to be able to do on-set dailies color grading, monitor on set with a CDL grade, and pass the full Scratch grade downstream, conforming by timecode to the final edit when preparing it for finishing.

It's a workflow similar to the Daylight -> Baselight flow, but a LOT more accessible price wise, since Baselight starts at $80,000.

GeeeZ! That sounds awesome.

I hate generic LUT's, almost truly hate. I have a painting background, so control is important. I'll shoot base camera picture profiles all day. But definitely like to get in and paint a little. However, for a job, I leave all of that to a trained professional. Too many things to keep track of in camera land, much less post and delivery. But good to be aware of and have more ability to make compromises and trust the colorists when having some in depth knowledge of the tools and requirements they have to abide by.

Learning color grading has been invaluable. Fixing my own production blunders lead me to make fewer production blunders, and now I have to do a lot less work in post than I used to. It's forced me to raise the level of my work quite a bit, both in production and in post.

It's most glaring when I end up color grading other cinematographers' work, which I'm trying to do more of so that I can stretch my color skills more. :)

Anyone looking to jump ship from Adobe (aside from Premiere users), should look at Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. Great apps at a great price, without the monthly billing model.

I have the affinity Photo. Will be getting the affinity designer soon.

I have a Tangent Wave 2 I've barely used since I got it, if anybody wants to buy one at a significant discount.

There are two issues I have with it -- 1) I don't have enough desk space to accomodate it with a keyboard and trackpad, and 2) the balls (whatever they're called) stopped responding when used with Premiere Pro (but work fine with Resolve). It's clearly a software issue with the Mac, and there is no hardware issue. Anyway, given how I do most color grading in Premiere, I'd be happy to let it go so it stops taunting me from inside its box.

Haha!

Goodness, I wish Adobe Premiere would integrate photoshop style controls into premiere! Curves seem to respond so much better in photoshop. And curves are easy with a mouse. Also, if Premiere could get the photoshop HUE/SAT/LUM control, where one can go into change individual colours, that would be a game changer.

Do you have one of those mice that has the precision button? Usually a gaming mouse. I like it for when grading with a mouse.

i'll DM you for details on the Wave2, but likely I am not in a position to pick one up at this time. So, fair game to anyone else interested.

I have an Intuos pen and trackpad that I use instead of a mouse, and it has the precision button. I generally don't use a mouse for anything anymore, I just like the control I get with a pen better.

I haven't had a computer at a desk in years, so been a while since I've been able to do the pen. was maybe 2010 since I last had a simple "graphics" set up. Then went laptop, then went phone. Lock down changed all that, and I started building a little setup, since I can't get to a studio or friend's to grade or edit. I'll get to see if the old ye Wacom Intuos Pro 3 still works!
