That's the message I'm getting at ...INITIALIZING AUDIO procedure from my Avid 5 just after installing it and trying to open it. It happens with any version, express DV or media composer ADRENALINE. I have a pentium 4 at 1.7GHz with 768 MB sdRam 133, grafficscard Ati Radeon 9250 128 MB. I m thining that the problem might be because I have no sound card. My sound chipset is on board Realtek AC'97 on a MS 6524 version 1 motherboard. Please help me out. I must deliver a project by Friday. I m a student at New York College in film studies. Tell me what I have to add to my system to make avid work.

To overcome your sound issue, you can try opening the SoundCard Configuration tool and select "Use Windows Mixer" or something like that (I've never personally had the issue, but I've seen it crop up a number of times) for more info visit HERE

Then I'd also recommend upping your RAM to at least 1.5GB (or 1GB in a pinch) you can't do much at all with 768MB on version 5.

PS, is your machine a laptop or a woefully underspec'd desktop?
 
Thanks! ...but if you could also tell me where this configuration tool is! ....I remind that I have the Realtek AC'97 on board sound chipset and not a soundcard. And I can't get more than 1024 MB sdRam cause I have only two slots on my motherboard and 512s are the biggest I can find. My system is a desktop.
 
The Sound Card tool on my system at home is located at C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid XpressDV

Officially, the Realtek cards are not supported until version 5 of XpressPro, you may have to get a Soundblaster Audigy card.
