Adm_dsound_mixer_open_error

Hello everyone...new to this community, so please bear with me.
I installed my Avid Express DV yesterday on a Sony Vaio vgna690 laptop...and got this error message:

Exception: ADM_DSOUND_MIXER_OPEN_ERROR -

and then avid closes.

So my question is: is this a software- or a hardware problem? (please tell me it is the former, not the latter ! :)

Has anybody experienced this? ...please advise.
 
Generally this means that Avid doesn't support your onboard sound controller. If you check the forums at www.avid.com this has been documented on Sony Vaio laptops before. Normally I'd tell you to buy a soundcard that Avid supports, but that's kind of hard to do on a laptop.
 
So...obviously a hardware problem...thanks guys for your quick replys....the soundblaster...looks like the solution to the problem....will look into that. thanks again.
