Adjusting zoom speed?

Aside from the settings in the menu for the handle zoom (low/mid/high/off) is there any way to slow/quicken those values? ie: if the default low setting=40 seconds, is there a way to make it take 60 seconds in stead? Any help appreciated!

Nope. What you can do though with a little practive is use the manual zoom, or get real good at the pressure sensitivity of the rocker switches. I think I've used servo zoom like 4 times in the year I have been using my camera LOL.

I actually find it almost impossible to create a smooth zoom manually. Am I just retarded? One thing worries me -- when I first got the camera and wasn't use to it, I once tried to turn the manual zoom ring while in servo mode. I didn't force it, but did apply some firm pressure before realizing what was going on. Do you think I could have done any damage to my zoom mechanism, or is it truly very hard to do a smooth manual zoom?

It takes alot of practice to get a smooth manual zoom. It is difficult. I wish there were a little more resistance on the zoom ring, but it is an improvement over the dvx100. I don't think you did any damage to your zoom mechanism unless your manual zooms feel gritty or scratchy when you turn the ring, and if your servo zoom still works you should be fine....

Yeh, servo works fine and manual is not gritty, I just find that I can't seem to maintain the same speed as I turn it. Like you said -- a little too loose, I think. Thanks for the reassurance, though!

When I first got the camera, I was playing around with the zoom and somehow got it to automatically zoom (slowly), without having to hold the zoom button down.

Has anybody come across this? I haven't been able to replicate it, and it's not listed in the manual or anywhere else.

I did something like quickly double-tapping the zoom rocker, but as I said, I haven't been able to replicate it.

This would be a very useful feature.

I know how you could replicate it, get a little gaffers tape, and tape that rocker button down! I have never heard of that happening btw....

I was filming in a supposed "haunted house", so assume it was one of the ghosts geeking out over the camera.

Jeez, nobody can keep their hands off the DVX!

lol, nice! Get them horror flicks posted!

You can adjust zoom speed if you have a zoom controller. I have the ZOE Zoom Controller and I can adjust the speed of the zoom. I can also set it to zoom by itself by just pressing the lever then releasing it and it does a complete push in or pull out by itself.
