Adjusting Audio Levels thru Mixer

When adjusting audio levels through a portable mixer, what do you set the levels at on the camera? Do you just keep the arrows on the dials on the camera in the facing up position then control all of your audio levels from the mixer? Does the mixer bypass the dials to control audio from the camera?

Also, what is an example of when I would need to use Line level instead of Mic level?

Re: Adjusting Audio Levels thru Mixer

I thought we already answered this...

When using an external mixer, send a -20db tone from the mixer to the camera. Then turn off the camera's limiter and set the dials such that you're registering -20db on the graphs (which, if I remember accurately, comes in at about the 10:00 position).

For Mic vs. Line level, this is going to sound painfully obvious, but you use Mic level when the signal you're supplying is coming at you at Mic level, and you use Line level when you're sending a Line level signal to the camera. Most mixers will probably output both, but default to Line level.

Re: Adjusting Audio Levels thru Mixer

is the camera's limiter also referred to as the MIC ALC? I have searched the manual but didn't seen anything that said limiter on the camera. MIC ALC sounds like the closest thing.
