Adding FireWire ports to laptop or pc

I am in a bad situation. I have a dvx100a and both my laptop and pc do not have FireWire ports, or the comparability for a FireWire card. I have Sony vegas pro 11 on both so I don't think the pinnacle movie box is compatible with it. So my question is can I add a FireWire port to either my laptop or desktop?

Thanks in advance

If you have a PCMCIA or ExpressCard slot, you can get an adapter for the laptop. For your desktop there are many cheap firewire cards.
