Adding a fake surveillance time stamp.

Can this be done within fcpx or are you guys using plugins?
It sounds like a plug in to me. There's a wack camcorder effect
but I'm looking for more like NSA time stamp.

You can create whatever artwork you like in photoshop or illustrator. Plop it in FCPX on top of the video. Do you have a reference image for what you are exactly looking for?

Cheers Bgundu, but won't that make it static? I need the time stamp to be actually running.

I don't have any reference, I just need a running time stamp, you know, black background rectangle in one corner with a running time code.

Use the time code generator in FCPX. Use the crop attribute to chop off the frames counter if you like.
