Poor guy.

My snorkel does not need any support, it stands by it self.

Frank

P.S. I heard that some guys with your problem
got good results by working with cerain err.,.."Actresses"

It always has to go down the wrong road with this "adapter crowd", the perverts of the DVX User board ;-) I guess it is true that people who buy adapters and try to cobble all of this stuff together to actually work correctly are the adventurous type.

And you guys wonder why there are hardly any women on this board ;-0

Dan

This is why I like the geardear matteboxes, cheap, pactical, expandable, light weight and above all, very sexy.

I have a good cure for those static adapters anyway...

Its variable speed ;)

Yeah the website that lens is shown on states that there are 10 of those lenses in existance, totaling about 80,000USD each and two of them are owned by sports illustrator.

They also said that the lens is 3200mm (i think) but in that photo they used an extention tube and the thickness of the EOS-XL adapter made the lens a rediculous 18,000something mm. The site said you could read a licence plate from 10 miles away, as long as its clear line of sight and a clear day, which would never work in practice but its a cool statistic.

... speechless

I wish that I had a picture of it, but two years ago, I produced a shoot for Imagine Entertainment in conjunction with Panavision. We drove up to Vandenberg AFB near Santa Maria, Ca. to shoot the final launch of a Titan IV Missile.

We were using two highly modified Sony F900s. That's not the cool part, the lenses we used were two of three Panavision's only existing 300X digital zoom lenses. This lens weighed about 185lbs and was over 3 feet long. The front element was over 14" in diameter. One of our camera positions was approximately 3 miles from the launch pad. We could zoom in close enough to read the decals on the Titan from 3 miles away! The only problem was that even with a massive O'Connor tripod and head, there was nothing we could rig to keep the shot really steady, it was a bit twitchy.

Amazing lens, Panavision told me that they only made three of them and each was insured for something close to $1,000,000.00. I had two of them riding around in the back of my truck, that was a pretty scary long drive back to Woodland Hills.

Someone took some photos but I don't know who has them, I wish that I did. You want to talk lens envy? You should have seen all of the news cameramen with their DBeta cameras looking at these lenses. Awesome.

Is it just me, or does "Snorkel down" on the flip units look somehow "impotent" ?

Don´t get me wrong, it`s not a "macho" attitude, but thinking how our equipment is perceived by customers, actors and others.

I think it looks much more powerfull with "snorkel up" and a big bad mattebox with giant flaps.

Is it just a tipical male thing to prefer "big errect extensions"?
I mean is evolution affecting us that much or am I just nuts?

Frank

Actually i agree with you.
I didn't find a good way to fix everything in the.. erected version, so i decided for the impotent one, which is uglier.... But who cares. With a large matte box and a follow focus you make it seem nicer.
